How to Use Recuva to Recover Deleted Files
If you've ever accidentally deleted a file that you didn't mean to, or needed to recover a file or folder that was lost due to a computer crash, Recuva is a software that can help save the day. As a free Windows utility, Recuva allows for the restoration of files that were once thought to be lost.
Created by the same team behind CCleaner, Recuva is designed to retrieve deleted files from your Windows computer, your recycle bin, or any removable media. In this guide, you will learn how to navigate and use Recuva to recover lost data.
Installing Recuva
Before you can start recovering lost files, you need to install Recuva. Go to Recuva's official website(https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva). Download the program and complete the installation process.
Launching Recuva
After you've installed Recuva, launch the program. You'll be greeted by Recuva's wizard, which will guide you through the steps to recover your files. Keep in mind that the sooner you try to recover the file, the better your chances are of a successful recovery.
Using Recuva's Wizard to Recover Files
The first screen of the wizard will ask you to select the type of files you want to recover. Choosing the correct type of file can speed up the recovery process, for instance, you can specify whether you're looking for Pictures, Music, Documents, Video, Compressed files, or Emails.
Next, you'll be asked to specify the location where the lost file was last seen. If you're unsure, you can select "I'm not sure," and Recuva will search your entire computer and any connected drives.
Once you've selected the location, Recuva will begin its initial scan. If you haven't been able to find your file after the initial scan, you can opt for the "Deep Scan" option, which will perform a more thorough search but can take a while.
After the scan, Recuva will present you with a list of files it's found. Files marked with green circles have a good chance of being recovered completely, orange are potentially recoverable, and red are unlikely to be recoverable.
To recover a file, simply tick the checkbox next to the file name, and click "Recover". You'll then need to choose where to save the recovered file. Ideally, choose a safe location that's not the same as the original place to avoid data corruption.
Advanced mode
Aside from the Recuva Wizard, there is also an Advanced mode that provides more detailed information about each file and allows for a more thorough search. Advanced mode is best left for those with more technical knowledge.
Regardless of how tech-savvy you are, Recuva is an incredibly useful tool that can rescue your lost files, thereby putting you back in control of your digital possessions. Whether you’ve lost documents, emails, images, or video files, Recuva is more than equipped to assist you in recovering your files.
